Spotlight on Resident Volunteer Barb Herrmann

Barbara Herrmann has been volunteering with the Flower Brigade since she moved in at Episcopal Homes in May 2019. When Barb started that May and noticed some leftover wallpaper for crafts in the Studio, she suggested making May Baskets. Barb and about a half dozen volunteers delivered those May baskets to 252 residents in Episcopal Church Home, The Gardens, Iris Park Commons and Katy’s Cottage. In 2020, with the change in Volunteer Program Directors, Barb took on a leadership role with the Friday/Saturday crew that provides flowers bouquets in public spaces throughout the Episcopal Homes main campus.
As of 2025, we now have 22 volunteers on Fridays and Saturdays who wash the vases, pick up the flowers (such loyal drivers!), arrange the flowers, add food, vinegar or pennies! and water (of course), and deliver them throughout the campus for the everyone to enjoy. Iris Park Commons, Katy’s Cottage and Episcopal Church Home arrange their own on Mondays. Over the years Barb has learned plenty about flowers and is excited to share her knowledge with others. And as for those pennies, add them to your tulips water and your blooms will last longer! We are so very fortunate to have Barb as a volunteer leader of the Flower Brigade and neighbor at Episcopal Homes.
If you would like to meet new friends and serve older adults like Barbara does, please check out our volunteer page to complete a volunteer application. We would love to have you join our volunteer team! For questions or more information, please contact Sally Newbury, Volunteer Program Director at snewbury@episcopalhomes.org
