The Gardens Skilled Nursing Home Offers Elders a Calm and Caring Environment
The Gardens is the first community to bring the Skilled Nursing Green House Homes to Minnesota.
“I like the idea of a home setting for elders, so that the elders can do whatever they want to do whenever they want to,” said Shahbaz Stacey Kangas of The Gardens at Episcopal Homes of Minnesota.
Stacey has been working in The Gardens Nursing Home at Episcopal Homes since the day it opened in January 2015. She works as a Shahbaz on the second floor of the brand new Gardens Green House Model of Care Nursing Home.
Kangas has been a Home Health Aide for over 20 years. Out of all of her experience the Green House Model of Care for a long term care setting is by far the best she has experienced.
“I absolutely LOVE my residents, said Shahbaz Stacey Kangas. The small, family-like setting is great and the freedom each resident has living here is the way it should be.”
“My mother resides on the second floor of The Gardens Nursing Home, and there has already been improved health and nutrition for her because of living there,” said Jan Nelson. “I like the small-family setting, and the great nursing care that is provided with the Green House Model of Care.”
Jan Nelson also expressed how much she appreciates the calm and caring environment at The Gardens.
The Gardens Nursing Home has 6 levels of homes at Episcopal Homes of Minnesota. There is one caregiver for every five elders versus the one caregiver per 10-12 elders in conventional Nursing Homes. Every Green House home has a maximum of 10 elders, each with a private room and private bath.
Jan Nelson, a frequent visitor of The Gardens, raved about the home like atmosphere, with the dining room style kitchen, family room, television room and large kitchen on each floor.
“The outings are very rewarding and extremely enjoyable to join in as a Shahbaz, said Stacey Kangas. We went on an outing to Como Park with elders, and it was a positive experience I will never forget, and I’m certain they will not either.”
Episcopal Homes of Minnesota is a full continuum of care campus, meaning there are residences all the way from Independent living to the long-term care living options. The Gardens Nursing Home is the first Green House Nursing Home in the state of Minnesota. This model of care is meant to erase the conventional Nursing Home feel and replace it with a nurturing and real home environment.
