Powering a Greener Future

Embracing Sustainability in Urban Senior Living: Episcopal Homes Partners with Community Solar Farms
Celebrating Earth Day with a Vision for a Greener Future

In a world that’s rapidly urbanizing, sustainability has become more important than ever. As cities grow and expand, the pressure on our natural resources intensifies. At Episcopal Homes, we understand that sustainability isn’t just about protecting the planet—it’s about building a better quality of life for current and future generations by balancing environmental, social, and economic well-being.

For senior living communities like ours, located in the heart of urban environments, these challenges are especially complex. Issues like air pollution, urban heat islands, and limited green space are real concerns. And with dense infrastructure, traditional renewable energy solutions like wind farms or large rooftop solar installations are often not feasible.

That’s why we’re excited to announce a meaningful step forward in our sustainability journey: Episcopal Homes is officially partnering with US Solar and the Minnesota Department of Commerce to enroll in community solar programs.

What is a Community Solar Farm?

A community solar farm is a shared solar energy project that allows multiple participants to benefit from the energy generated by a single solar array. These solar farms are typically located off-site, and participants—like Episcopal Homes—subscribe to a portion of the electricity generated.

This means that our residents can support renewable energy and enjoy its benefits without needing individual solar panel installations. It’s an innovative, accessible solution for communities like ours.

Why This Matters

Our partnership with US Solar allows Episcopal Homes to be part of a growing clean energy movement that’s making a real difference across Minnesota. Here’s how community solar helps:

  • Accessibility: Residents can support solar energy even if they don’t own their roof or have the means to invest in solar panels.
  • Cost Savings: Subscribing to a community solar farm can lower electricity bills by offsetting traditional energy use.
  • Environmental Impact: By reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we’re helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality—something especially important in urban settings.

A Path Forward

We believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility, and that every person—no matter their age or stage of life—deserves a chance to contribute to a healthier planet. This new partnership with US Solar not only supports our environmental goals but also fosters a sense of empowerment and collective action within our community.

Join the Conversation

To ensure our residents are informed and involved, we’ll be hosting an in-person campus Q&A session with US Solar in May. This will be a great opportunity for residents to ask questions, learn how the program works, and discover the many ways they can contribute to this exciting initiative.
