Episcopal Homes Community, Midway Pointe, was honored at the NALHFA Annual Conference
14th Award for Excellence Since 2002
Thursday, April 30, 2015 – Episcopal Homes President / CEO Marvin J. Plakut received the coveted Multifamily Housing Excellence Award at the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA) annual conference in Miami, Florida.
“The selection criteria left no stone unturned,” says Plakut. “Fortunately for us, each criterion was in lockstep with our thinking as plans for Midway Pointe were developed. We saw Midway Pointe as an urban village – a Transit Oriented Development adjacent to the Green Line light rail – a community of independent seniors seamlessly connected with the greater community. We are proud to have gotten so much so right in the eyes of our peers nationwide.”
Selection Criteria included (1) Extraordinary Benefit to the Community, (2) Innovation, (3) Transferability, (4) Affordability, and (5) Serving Needs of Special Groups.
“The residents of Midway Pointe have already become a closely-knit community,” says Plakut. “A number of them have told me they feel like they won the lottery. In a very real sense, they did. Nearly 400 people sought applications for Midway Pointe’s 50 apartments. While it is wonderful to receive a national award for Multifamily Excellence, it is even better to see so many lives being transformed by that excellence!”
The National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA), founded in 1982, is the national association of professionals working to finance affordable housing in the broader community development context at the local level.
