Episcopal Homes of Minnesota helps donate to numerous different organizations in the Midwest area. On June 12-14, Episcopal Homes of Minnesota donated beverages and breakfast to the Bike for MS. On June 12-14, over 3,700 people pedaled in the Bike MS: C.H. Robinson MS 150 Ride, and raised nearly $3 million.
Bike MS was started to help research and find the cause of Multiple Sclerosis, for an end result to find treatments and a cure for the disease. The fundraised money also goes to help with providing financial assistance for social groups, wellness programs, retreats, self-help groups, and other helpful programs for people who are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Bike MS has helped fuel more than $870 million in research.
The Director of Life+ at Episcopal Homes of Minnesota, Julie Niewald, has been riding the MS 150 for the last eight years.
“There is an overwhelming sense of personal accomplishment in completing this ride. As a rider, I know that I will have tired muscles, but that is nothing compared to the uphill battle that individuals with MS live with every day,” said Director of Life+ at Episcopal Homes of Minnesota, Julie Niewald.
Julie has been part of a team of cyclists called, the Real Estate Riders; this team is one of the top three fundraisers at Bike MS. The Real Estate Riders team has fundraised over $1.5 million over the last 20 years. After riding 75 miles that first day, Julie helped organize free massages from massage therapists for each cyclist.
Each year, Team Captain, Leroy Bendickson, (from Edina Realty), arranges a hospitality tent for his Real Estate Riders team, which this year had 200 riders. The tent he organizes includes food and drinks, massages, and entertainment. Episcopal Homes of Minnesota donated breakfast items Sunday morning in their tent in Hinckley. The food and coffee that Episcopal Homes of Minnesota donated was greatly appreciated by the Real Estate Riders team.
