Life + Wellbeing Promotes Independence Late In Life
Life expectancy of older adults is increasing, with those 65 years or older representing the fastest growing segment of the US population. As we are living longer, it is becoming ever-more important to maintain the capacity to live independently and function well into late life. A recent article in the New York Times highlighted how regular exercise reduces the chance that one becomes physically disabled. Episcopal Homes recognizes this growing need for preventative and proactive programming, and has responded with the creation of the Life + Wellbeing program.
Life+ Wellbeing is Built on Community
The Life+ Wellbeing program offers a socially connected community with opportunities to challenge mind and body, lift the spirits, revitalize purpose and nurture the heart. Writing groups, walking clubs, exercise and yoga classes will strengthen mind, body and community.
Mission and Leadership
The Life+ Wellbeing program seeks to provide a personalized and integrated pallet of opportunities to support the pursuit of living well. We believe everyone can live their optimum life regardless of the challenges of aging.
Julie Niewald will transition to her new role as Wellbeing Director after managing Cornelia House Independent Living for seven years. Julie will be joined by Mary Schroeder, Fitness Specialist, who will oversee fitness and exercise programming campus-wide.
Kick-Off Events
On August 4th from 3-4 p.m., Episcopal Homes will host our first Memory Café for caregivers and their loved ones affected by memory loss. Memory Café founder Lori LaBey will join us for our first meeting and assist in facilitating discussion.
Life+ Wellbeing programming will officially launch in September 2014, coinciding with the International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA) Active Aging Week September 21-27. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and Blog for more updates.
