Meet Julie Niewald, Active Living Director
How long have you been in your position? Can you tell me a bit about your training?
I have been in this position, starting my 8th year. Prior to that, I was housing manager at Cornelia House for 6+ years. My training as an Active Living Director involved: becoming a Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard, and Aquatic Group Instruction certification
What qualities make a good leader?
A good leader takes the time to build the foundation for interpersonal relationships to grow.
What are the most important skills you use as a leader?
As a leader, you must build trust. If people know and trust you, you can lead by example and those you serve, will often follow.
Please share an accomplishment you are especially proud of:
I am especially proud of the grant I wrote to get the Trishaw bike and program on campus in 2021.
Please share a goal(s) for your area for 2022:
To strengthen our web presence with Cycling Without Age, and to build the trishaw program.
A short sentence or two about you personally:
I love to garden, and I love to simply move. Cycling is my favorite pastime but for me, it is about being outside as much as I can and living in the moment.
