Episcopal Homes’ Women in Leadership: Meet Inez Kalle

Meet Inez Kalle, Director of Nursing, Episcopal Church Homes Long Term Care and Transitional Care

How long have you been in your position? Can you tell me a bit about your training?

I have been the Director of Nursing (DON) at ECH for about 5 years.

I am a Registered Nurse. I started here as a staff nurse and then became the evening and weekend nursing Supervisor.  I later became a Nurse Manager on the Transitional care unit, and then I was the Assistant Director of Nursing and then the DON.

What qualities make a good leader?

A good leader is a good listener who is compassionate and passionate about outcomes and staff.

What are the most important skills you use as a leader?

I’m a good listener, I care not just about the patients but also the staff. I want to believe I both compassionate and passionate.

Please share an accomplishment you are especially proud of:

I think it is worth mentioning that while other facilities do not have staff, we have managed to keep our staff throughout the pandemic. Our census has also been the higher than usual during these very difficult months. We became a 5 star facility after I became DON.

Please share a goal(s) for your area for 2022:

One of my goals is to improve the admission process for new admissions. Another goal is to create more opportunities to interact with staff and listen to their concerns.

A short sentence or two about you personally:

I am an inspirational poet, a nurse, a teacher and a mother of 2 teenage girls.  I enjoy long nature walks with my dog.
