Meet Cindy Iverson, Director of Marketing and Communications
How long have you been in your position? Can you tell me a bit about your training/previous positions?
I have been with Episcopal Homes a little over a year now. I have worked at two other senior living campuses prior to coming to Episcopal Homes in a similar role. Prior to working in senior care, I worked for a number of years in healthcare. I worked in radiology sales – the job that brought me to the Midwest – and then for almost 15 years working with local medical professionals to raise money and awareness for colorectal cancer.
What qualities make a good leader?
Being adaptable. Learning from others and from your own mistakes. Listening to differing points of views. Empowering those you work with and acknowledging their accomplishments.
What are the most important skills you use as a leader?
Trying to set a good example. Always being ready to roll up my sleeves and help. Having a thick skin and trying to use humor to encourage co-workers when times get frustrating.
Please share an accomplishment you are especially proud of:
Helping to put the pieces together to positively impact colon cancer screening rates both locally and nationally. I helped start and was the first Executive Director of a non-profit that raises funds to help colorectal cancer awareness and screening initiatives across the country. From the time I began to do this work in 1997 to when I left the field in 2005, the incidence of colorectal cancer deaths had decreased almost 3 percent each year for men and almost 2 1/2 percent for women each year primarily due to increased screening.
Please share a goal(s) for your area for 2022:
The biggest effort for 2022 is creating the new Episcopal Homes website. It has been over 7 years since it was totally refreshed and I am excited to help guide the project.
A short sentence or two about you personally:
I am originally from Massachusetts and love New England – I work hard to keep my accent! My husband and I love to travel, exploring the history, culture and food and beverages of the areas we visit locally, nationally and internationally. We love to entertain family and friends by our poolside oasis in the summer.
