Christopher Fabel: Leading with Energy, Empathy, and Experience

The Willows of Ramsey Hill is now part of the Episcopal Homes family, and Residence Director Christopher Fabel brings a distinctive combination of energy, experience, and compassion to his role. Known for his quick pace, positive attitude, and ability to get things done, Chris plays a central part in shaping the supportive, community-focused environment that defines the 58-room memory care residence in St. Paul.

Chris’s connection to the community runs deep. A lifelong St. Paul resident, he attended local schools before graduating from the University of St. Thomas. He joined The Willows shortly after it opened in April 2015, beginning as a home health aide. Over the years, he has grown alongside the community he now leads.

In July 2017, Chris stepped into the role of Residence Director. Since then, he has become known for a leadership style rooted in trust, positivity, and support.

“I like to think that I lead more with love,” he says. “I’m very proud of the individuals that work here. They’re here for the right reasons, and that allows me to excel in leadership by utilizing the strengths of our team. I’m not a micromanager and I try to stay glass half full. Positive energy is really important. I laugh a lot. But it’s also okay to say this is hard work. It’s not for everyone.”

On any given day, The Willows is a hub of activity. Residents participate in scheduled programs, families visit frequently, and staff members provide continuous care and support. Chris embraces the pace and the relationships that come with it. “I’ll giggle to myself when I’m giving a tour and someone says, ‘You know everyone’s name here.’ I better know all their names,” he says. “We know their children, their grandchildren, their pets. What makes this place special is that it truly is a community that cares for vulnerable adults. This is home.” For Chris, the priority remains clear: ensuring every resident feels safe, respected, and supported.

Outside of work, Chris is a husband and father of two who values time outdoors and prioritizes work-life balance. He also emphasizes one key principle that guides both his leadership and the culture at The Willows: open communication.

“There are no bad questions in healthcare,” he says. “We’re here to advocate for the individuals who live here. Some can advocate for themselves, some can’t—but we all need to be part of that. If you have a question, ask.”

Through his leadership, Chris continues to foster a culture where staff feel supported, residents feel at home, and families feel confident in the care their loved ones receive.
