Blooming Flowers and Hearts

Last winter, the Skilled Care Committee of the Episcopal Homes Board of Directors generously donated flowers to each of the skilled care areas on campus.  Out of this offer, a partnership with Trader Joe’s bloomed.  Each Saturday and Sunday, donated flowers are picked up from the St. Paul store on Lexington Parkway.  Then an army of volunteers arranges and distributes the arrangements, helping to beautify the campus.  Stacy Dunn, Volunteer Director shares, “It never gets old peeking into the boxes to see what new flowers each week.  I began as a novice arranger, but with the help of residents Barbara, Marla and Marilyn, I now understand the value of filler plants and what to do with orchids that used to seem so intimidating.”

Some weeks there are dozens of bouquets, and some weeks hundreds!  Volunteer Marla Cavanaugh says, “The thought that Trader Joe’s donates these every week boggles my mind.”  Episcopal Homes is grateful for the many businesses who support us, many of whom have become Vision Partners.  For more information on this program, please contact , Director of Development at krigg@episcopalhomes.org.
