A Calling to Care

Mpahoreh (MP) Sillah joined Episcopal Homes in 2021 as a CNA in the Episcopal Church Home, bringing with him a lifelong dream of being a nurse. Growing up in Gambia, MP discovered early that he loved caring for others.

He earned his nursing degree in his home country before immigrating to the United States, where he continued his work as a CNA in Duluth before moving to the Twin Cities. A colleague who worked at Episcopal Homes encouraged him to apply and he quickly found a workplace that felt like home.

While working full-time at EH, MP enrolled in the RN program at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. He and a group of classmates regularly carpooled the long distance, balancing demanding coursework with equally demanding shifts. After earning his RN, MP continued his education at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he pursued his BSN while maintaining his professional responsibilities. In May 2026, he successfully graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, marking another significant milestone in his commitment to lifelong learning and excellence in patient care.

Since joining Episcopal Homes, MP has worked every shift and is currently on third shift while managing school and raising his two-year-old.

He describes the team as a family: one that supports each other and makes even the toughest days manageable. MP is proud of the high-quality care he provides and grateful for the opportunities he’s had to grow professionally. The Episcopal Homes Scholarship Program has played a key role in his journey, supporting him through both his RN and BSN programs. He credits the scholarship with helping him advance his career while continuing to serve the residents he cares so deeply about.

Since 2018, Episcopal Homes Foundation has supported employees’ growth by offering scholarships that help them advance their careers and pursue new professional ‘ opportunities. “I am grateful for the opportunity to provide quality patient care and grow professionally. The scholarship provided financial support so that I could obtain my RN and BSN without accumulating student loans.”
